National High Five Day - WOOT!

10:15 AM Posted by Andy (Fields, to avoid confusion)

So, FINALLY they have come out with a day that I can get behind - something to get me ALMOST as excited as National Talk Like A Pirate Day (that's coming up on Sept. 19, BTW...) and that comes at a time when we as country need it most...

The idea comes from the University of Virginia, beacon of such memories as Thomas Jefferson's brain (not to mention his home), William Faulkner, Tina Fey, Dave Mathews (gross, I know... but still...), Edgar Allen Poe and of course, the Barber boys - both Ronde and Tiki...

The idea is to spread some spontaneous cheer by high-fiving friends, co-workers, and even strangers on the street... I was originally going to take this in a direction where I could go into the history of the high-five, seeing as how it originated at UVA and whatnot and they are all nuts about history, but instead I want you to enjoy some awesome videos of some of my favorite high-fives:

The "One-Sided" High-Five:

The "I'm So Smart I Never Needed to Learn How" High-Five,
Or, "I'm So Smart Because All I Do Is Study And I Don't Have Any Friends On Whom To Practice" High-Five:

(Sidenote: watch this video and tell me how badly you want to hear the end of the host's question that gets cut off...)

The "Ultra-Tough, Semi-Homo Undertoned" High-Five:

The "I Taught You How To Do This So You'd Better DO IT Or I'm Not Feeding You" High-Five:

The "I'd Better Wash My Hand in Bleach Afterward" High-Five:

And my personal favorite, the "Old Men Trying to Be Young and Hip" High-Five:

So go out and give a stranger some spontaneous joy by way of a friendly high-five - someone who is out walking the streets and looking for work... an no, I'm not talking about hookers - I would stay away from high-fiving them... Gonorrhea of the hand is terrible... so they tell me...

Hey Andy - with your consistent nagging - I'll comment!! Enjoyed all the posts and have to say my favorite "high five" video wasn't even about the high five but totally about the game show hosts question.... a bit disturbing...

thanks for including me in on your update loop..fun to get a little glimpse from people from the past.

I can't wait until talk like a pirate day. You should talk like a Russian Dracula pirate. Now that WILL be funny!

Em - HA! I guess nagging pays off... and yeah - that question... it really bugs me that I may never know the tail end of it...

A - I bet you can't wait for me to sing you a medly of "Happy Birthday" and "A Pirate's Life for Me", huh? HUH?

Tiff - I am doing it... I don't know if such things exist, but I'm doing it...
