So in two consecutive weeks the Kumquats are 2-0! Yes! Back on top! Sorta...
Let's revisit the difference between the first three games (0-2-1) and the last two (2-0). There's two things really -
Number one, sports GU. In training for the marathon in May I am using GU, a sports gel that gives you sustained energy for long-distance runs. I started taking some before the games to give myself an added boost, and it's been great - I feel alert in the goal, and I have energy like I did all those years ago... Okay, maybe not that much, but still...
Number two - Taylor and Angie. This season we'll be without Chad, Conrad (for much of the season), Tyson and Kelly Law - and if you know anything about the Kumquats you know that those guys are a lot of the field skill on our team. We've made up with it with some pretty good teenagers and Ryan, who for only playing two games is incredibly fast and has recovery speed and Roy, who isn't a teenager... not by a long shot...but we've still needed that kick - and Taylor and Angie are that kick...
With Taylor playing in the back I feel comfortable in the net and we haven't been scored on since and Angie playing in the middle has great speed and can not only possess the ball but take it away whenever she wants -
I've had some good saves and the games have been really fun, kinda ever since we lost 4-0 to the semi-professional team we lost Paul to (even though I fantastic game and had MAYBE 1,000 saves that game.) But since then we've been ON. Yesterday, for example, I blocked a PK on a BS call against Conrad, I had a couple great diving saves, a pretty good save on a one-on-one breakaway, and it feels good.
So we won yesterday 2-0, with a guest appearance by Conrad scoring a goal and another goal by Matt, who was set up perfectly, took a perfect touch and put the ball in the back of the onion bag right past the net tender... (that's English football talk...)
Just thought you'd all like to know what we've been up to... more to come, but next week we have a bye... BOOOOOOOO!
